Concepts

By the word concepts we refer to 'solutions to marketing requirements'. Marketing problems are, more often than not, branding and/or Corporate Identity related and many clients find that rebranding or updating their product or service brand identity has been the most effective way to increase awareness amongst their customers, giving their product or service a new lease of life. Before anything is put to paper, a good idea of the purpose of a communication needs to be refined. Peter Poland Design has had much success in the area of Corporate Identity, brand development and design for print and screen and we work closely with our clients to identify the target of their communication and formulate innovative creative solutions to fulfill their marketing objectives.

Design

The design process brings together the whole gamut of our in house creative services to one targeted solution, all of our suppliers are briefed with the final design in mind. This approach ensures that the final result reflects the client brief and the targeted solution addresses the marketing requirement.

We are always striving for new and exciting methods when presenting marketing materials but many past projects needed to sit along side existing materials so it seems sensible to categorise the majority of our projects by material type. There have been other projects which do not fit these types but it is true to say that many projects have a pre-determined cost efficiency in the form of ‘A’ paper sizes, envelopes etc. It is rare to get the opportunity to break the mold completely, although we are always up for a challenge.

The portfolio examples on this site are categorized by material type: folders and Inserts, Newsletters, Leaflets and brochures, Reports, Websites, packaging, exhibitions and special projects.

Photography

Photography falls into three categories, bought images, In house stock and commissioned photography.

Bought images are acquired when necessary and offer an unlimited source from the world’s top libraries, however, copyright release issues and license costs often prohibit clients from investing in bought stock as there are strict criteria concerning size, use, print runs etc.

Our in house stock has been built up over many years and offers an extensive library of mainly South West based images. These images are easily accessible and although there are the same licensing criteria as bought stock, they are very competitively priced when compared to external image sources.

Commissioned photography is the best way to achieve the required imagery for a given brief. As a part of our business we employ highly creative individuals from across the spectrum of graphic arts and media to work specifically on projects where a multi-disciplinary solution is needed to fulfill a brief. It is through the use of photography, illustration and design that these objectives are met. Our photographers, working to and understanding the design brief will acquire the right pictures for each project. This in house approach allows flexibility in the rigid use of images and ensures a unique solution.

The portfolio section of this site shows some examples of stock and commissioned photography and many of our pictures can be seen in use throughout this site.

Illustration

Illustration can provide a publication with a unique look and feel and is an exciting alternative to photography when used within a design solution. As a graphic device it offers a different viewpoint on a subject and when annotated can easily highlight an issue where words would fail. Our in house Illustrators are well briefed in the mechanics of the production of multi media content for print and screen and understand the final objective of any marketing material before they start work. It is with this in house approach that copyright issues can be easily overcome and the final objective of any communication concentrated on.

The portfolio section of this site categorises past illustration work into three types: Pictorial - pure artistic imagery, Graphic – to illustrate an idea or concept and Annotated – explanatory images.
