Digital Products Branding

Client: The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office

Branding

Since 1795 the UKHO Admiralty Chart has had a privileged place in the navigational chart market selling over one third of the world’s charts. With the introduction of a series of computer based products over a number of years, the brief was to create a brand identity that could cope with expansion in the number of products being offered. The brand would need to include products that were already in the marketplace with brand identities in their own right.

It was decided that the brand should be created as an interim measure over two to three years, and that all products introduced in this time would take the new design. Meanwhile those products with their own identities would be dual branded for a time before the old brand was dropped. Once all digital products were in the fold it would then be possible to update the brand completely to market to a growing number of computer based navigators across a broad spectrum of different needs.

Once agreed, the interim brand was implemented over approximately two years and the work involved required all disciplines including photography, Illustration and design
